Mr Peter D. Bates FRCS (Tr & Orth) is a Consultant Orthopaedic Trauma Surgeon at Barts Bone and Joint Health, Royal London Hospital, and Senior Lecturer and Co-Lead for the Orthopaedic Trauma Sciences MSc at Queen Mary University of London. Fellowship-trained in Dallas, Nottingham, and Christchurch, he specialises in orthopaedic trauma, with expertise in pelvic, acetabular, periarticular fracture surgery, and polytrauma. Best known for his engaging teaching style, Mr Bates is a passionate educator who enjoys sharing practical insights from complex trauma surgery. He is a fan of pies and DIY in his spare time; his favourite tools are a spirit level, an impact driver and a nail gun which he is excited to get going with!

KEYNOTE SPEAKER

Mr Josh Lamb is a fellowship-trained hip and knee replacement surgeon at Wrightington Hospital and the University of Bristol. Following specialist orthopaedic training in Yorkshire, he completed advanced arthroplasty fellowships in New Zealand and Wrightington, with expertise in primary, revision, robotic, and navigated joint replacement surgery. His research focuses on implant selection and its impact on patient outcomes, earning him a PhD and over 30 peer-reviewed publications. He combines academic excellence with a patient-centred approach to deliver evidence-based, personalised care in hip and knee arthroplasty.

Mr Balaji Purushothaman is a Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon at South Tyneside and Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust in the United Kingdom. He completed his undergraduate medical training in India before undertaking higher surgical training in Trauma and Orthopaedics in the Northern Deanery. He subsequently completed an AO Spine Fellowship at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane, Australia, where he received advanced training in complex spinal surgery and minimally invasive techniques.

His clinical practice encompasses the full spectrum of spinal disorders, has special interest in SI joint disorders and Spine Endoscopy.  

Alongside his clinical work, Mr Purushothaman is actively involved in research, education, and national leadership. He serves on the Executive Council of the British Association of Spine Surgeons (BASS), is a Fellow of the Faculty of Surgical Trainers at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, and is a member of the JCST Specialist Advisory Committee Liaison Group for Trauma and Orthopaedics. He is also Chair of the OrthNorth Teaching and Education Association, Visiting Professor at Chettinad Medical College and Research Institute, India , an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Newcastle University, and an FRCS (Trauma & Orthopaedics) Examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.

Miss Rebecca Lewis is an Orthopaedic Surgeon with a special interest in Foot & Ankle surgery. She undertook her orthopaedic training in the East of Scotland region before completing a fellowship in Foot & Ankle Surgery at Oswestry. She returns to NHS Tayside to share her journey at TORC 2026.

FELLOWSHIP SPEAKER

Mr Ewan Semple is a consultant orthopaedic surgeon in NHS Tayside with a specialist interest in paediatric orthopaedics. He undertook his orthopaedic training in the East of Scotland region before completing a fellowship in paediatric orthopaedics at the Women's and Children's Hospital in Adelaide. As well as developing his experience of paediatric orthopaedics, his fellowship gave him a broad exposure to the wine regions of South Australia.
